CEP 841 - Classroom Management in the Inclusive Classroom Dr. Cindy Okolo
In this class we explored a school wide PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Support)system and how to use rewards in a classroom appropriately. All behavior was responded to school wide. Learning how to accomodate all the different personalities within a classroom and treat them fairly and appropriately. We also discovered how to use consequences in a postivie manner and did many different scenario type applications.

CEP 882 - Technology in Literacy
This class explores how to use various forms of technology to enhance a child's literacy abilities. All of the different types of assistive technology avaiable. I also learned the range of assistive technology from pencil grips, specialized keyboards and talking computers. Teaching children how to use the various types of assistive technology and how to determine what children need and what servicesare needed to reach their maximum potential. Explored various free reading programs on line that kids could use in a classroom.

CEP 842 Methods of Instruction in the Inclusive Classroom Dr. Cindy Okolo
This class focused on the mainstreaming of special needs students into the regular education classroom. It taught how to balance and accomodate all the different learning styles of students and abilities within a classroom. The autism spectrum was also a focus. Teaching is an art and I learned how to approach different subjects with different students and learning types. Treating all kids equally isn't always "fair" was a theme of the class.

ED 800 - Concept of Educational Inquiry Steven Weiland
This course was set up in a series of eight units which focused on great minds in education and the philosophy of teaching in classroom. There were four central areas of study; classroom based or teacher research, theories of intelligence and the curriculum, history and biography and participant observation. Each unit was composed of books, magazines and on-line articles that was student dependent to read.

TE 846 - Accomodating Differences in Literacy Learners Dr. Gary Troia
This course focused on five major principles; cultural and linguistic differences, individual motivation differences, neuropsychological differences, instructional arrangements to accomodate learning differences. The evaluation of literacy of material was also a focus of the course. Teaching reading in schools is vital to success and each child learns at a different pace. Learning how to teach reading and where to start the process was a focus for this class.

CEP 883 - Psychology of Classroom Discipline Dr. Vicky Mousouli
This class explored the psychology of why children act out and the psychology behind rewards and consequences. I learned about the 3C's conectedness, competence and contribution. Connectedness is the bond formed with a child in a classroom. I feel it is also the bond formed with parents and how open you want to be with a child. Competence is the ability to know and teach the material. Achieving benchmarks with all students and reaching their potential. Contribution is what as a group the teacher and students are going to put forth together.

CEP 840 - Teaching Exceptional Children and Youth in the General Education Classroom Professor: Dr. Cindy Okolo
This class explores PBIS in depth and how to apply concepts to the classroom and the individual child. How to challenge students that are not use to be challenged. Also, the children who act out in class and get ignored and how to incorporate their learning style into the classroom. The various diagnosable problems students have that make school and friends difficult in their little lives.

TE 850 - Critical Reading for Children and Adolescents
This class explores children's literature, how to interpret and read between the lines of amazing children's literature. Books were presented in different genre's and compared. Taught how to use prior knowledge to form opinions on books. A book is so much more than just words and illustrations on a page and each element is drawn or printed for a specific reason.

CEP 832 - Educating Students with Challenging Behavior Jana Aupperlee
This class focuses on how to educate students with various behavior challenges. The areas of peer rejected, unmotivated, hyperactive, and shy were some of the children's personalities touched upon. Different practices were modeled and discussed on how to treat each student fairly and how to reach maximum potential.
